Awesome Day

I had an awesome day today. It started out pretty normal, PSALT in the morning then a few hours of gaming….

Then we went to the Video Games Live concert at Paramount at 8:00pm. It was AWESOME!!! Some songs that stuck out were Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, and Castlevania. This one CRAZY dude, Martin Leung, also played some AMAZING piano arrangements of Mario and Final Fantasy. He got popular on the internet with a video of him playing the Super Mario Bros theme blindfolded. He played this awesome Final Fantasy medley, and some crazy super-fast Mario one I’ll put on Facebook. I wasn’t aware human fingers could move so fast.

Afterwards we played some of the greatest games of Brawl ever, then Justin and Alper bought tickets for Europe, so they’ll be coming with us to Rome (and Venice and Paris and Madrid) in March :D .

And then on the way home it was SNOWING!!! And sticking too! Awesomeness. Snow in the middle of the night, fresh, since no one’s awake to track through it… awesomeness….

The City That Never Sleeps

And I didn’t sleep so well either, no surprise there.

Spending 10 days with your parents, after having just moved home after two years of living out, is… uh… not good for one’s soundness of mind. I’m dreading the near future of my life.

Anyways… New Yorkers… Yankees…. I guess the rumors are true.

They walk at a steady pace, almost never running, almost never taking steps two at a time (only saw two people do that). Head up, staring the world in the face, striding with purpose, confident, straight back.

I envy them.

They’re also very impatient. They totally ignore all crosswalk signals and cross so long as there are no cars coming. (At least it’s not as bad as Paris, where they cross streets lane by lane!) Those in cars wade through crosswalks, forcing pedestrians to stream in front and behind the car. If there’s any sort of delay, they honk. Repeatedly. Until the obstruction goes away.

They’re also surpisingly helpful, offering advice and help even when unsolicited.

A lot of buildings had doormen or whatnot in uniforms standing outside. They were formal yet not. They rarely stood stiffly and professionally, sometimes there’d even be a group or them just seeming to lounge about but not blocking the doorway, all chatting and such and opening the door when someone turned towards it. Guess it’s just for appearances, but more? I dunno.

I also saw a lot of Hispanic/black women taking care of white babies. I guess nannies are popular in NYC?

Gosh… the weather there is so HOT, and they actually have a nightlife! (Hence “The City That Never Sleeps” nickname…) The temperature varies between very hot (subways without AC), hot (outside), cold (night), and very cold (room with AC). Sorta like Taiwan, except Taiwan’s either super-duper hot, or super-duper cold. NYC is a lot like Taiwan, warm nights allow it a nightlife, with lots of places open 24 hrs. It’s EXTREMELY diverse (probably helps that we lived right next to Koreatown), and strangely lotsa French people there.

They also dump all their garbage out on the streets. Ick. Yuck. Blargh. And so much smoking. Ugh. I had so many bloody noses.

Speaking of bloody noses, I got at least 2 or 3 very bad ones, you know, the ones where one nose is bleeding so much that it’s leaking out of the other nostril as well as your mouth. I actually learned two things about bloody noses, on top of my vast knowledge of them already, considering how often and easily I get bloody noses. So yeah.

Also I have 497 photos (that’s AFTER deleting a bunch)… What am I gonna do?!
